Biography
In his youth he was preparing to become a monk . In 1797, he entered the Benedictine monastery of Saint Sixtus in Piacenza, but in 1803 he refused spiritual ministry in favor of literary work.
He was a supporter of Napoleon and his regime in Italy, in 1807 he wrote a panegyric in honor of Bonaparte. In 1808 he received the post of secretary of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna , which, in 1808, he had to leave in connection with the beginning of the restoration and return to the old order . P. Giordani was suspected of adherence to liberal republican ideals.
In addition to literary activity, he participated in the political life of the country; being a patriot, he was involved in activities aimed at the liberation of Italy from Austrian rule.
Expelled in 1824 for free-thinking from Piacenza, went to Florence , from where he was also expelled, in 1830 settled in Parma.
P. Giordani was a close friend of Giacomo Leopardi . The first original poems of Leopardi attracted the attention of Pietro Giordani. With him, starting in 1817, Leopardi began a lively correspondence. Friendship and patronage of P. Giordani played a role in the further literary fate of Leopardi. He not only introduced him to the circle of Italian writers, but for many years was his active adviser and leader.
He was also friends with Carlo Cattaneo .
P. Giordani was considered an authoritative writer in the genre of epistolary literature , the author of a number of panegyrics , pamphlets , political publicist , esthete . Fought for the revival of the Italian style in literature.

Memory
- In the city of Piacenza , one of the streets of the old city was named in his honor, and there is a monument to him in the central square in front of the church of St. Francesco.
