Biography
Robert Gerhardt was born on October 3, 1903 in Baltimore , Maryland .
His sports career was very short and lasted only about two years. He started rowing at the local Arundel Baltimore boat club, but soon the family moved to Philadelphia , and there Gerhard continued training at the Pennsylvania Barge Club - here he immediately became a member of the oar four-seater steering crew, as one of the members of this team decided to go into twin boats and perform individually.
Robert Gerhardt achieved the greatest success in rowing at the international level in the 1924 season when he joined the main team of the American national team and thanks to a series of successful performances he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris . In the double fours with the helmsman he successfully overcame the preliminary qualification stage, while in the decisive final race he came to the finish line third behind the crews from Switzerland and France - thereby won the bronze Olympic medal.
After the Paris Olympics, Gerhard no longer showed any significant results in rowing in the international arena.
Subsequently, he worked in the insurance and brokerage business.
He died on January 23, 1989 in Erdenheim, Pennsylvania , at the age of 85.
