Udmurt Radio Television Center RTRS

The Udmurt Republican Radio and Television Broadcasting Center (a branch of the RTRS “Udmurt RTRTC”) is a division of the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network (RTRS) , the main operator of digital and analog broadcasting in the Udmurt Republic.

History

1930-1940s

November 5, 1932 is the date of birth of the branch of the RTRS "Udmurt RTRTC". On this day, the first Udmurt broadcasting station in Udmurtia was put into operation [1] .

In the newspaper "Izhevskaya Pravda" dated November 5, 1932 No. 252, an article was published on the opening of the Udmurt Broadcasting Station named after the 10th anniversary of the Udmurt Autonomous Region with a staffing of nine people. The radio station "Small Komintern" was broadcasting on a wave of 363.6 meters. The transmitter power was 4 kW, the broadcast volume was four hours a day (1–1.5 hours in the morning and 2.5–3 hours in the evening) [2] [3] [4] .


1950-1960s

On May 7, 1955, at a ceremonial meeting in honor of Radio Day, the idea came up to build a television center in Izhevsk. The project of the television center was prepared by employees of the Izhevsk Motor Plant (now - Izhevsk Motor Plant Axion Holding JSC), the metal structures for the construction of the first television tower in Izhevsk were made by the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant [5] .

The first telecast of the Izhevsk Television Studio aired on November 4, 1956 and was dedicated to the builders of the television center [5] . A television program could be watched by 40% of the population of the republic.

The television center was put into operation on July 25, 1957. It was the twentieth television center in the Soviet Union. The studio was located in the basement of house No. 206 on Pushkinskaya Street, next to the TV tower. Regular television broadcasting has been organized since August 1957, television broadcasts were broadcast three times a week. The broadcast volume was 289 hours per month [5] .

In 1958, the first TRSO television repeaters were put into operation in Votkinsk, Glazov, Sarapul and Kilmezi. Programs were taken from Izhevsk [6] .

In 1962, the new building of the Izhevsk Radio Center (15 Pesochnaya Street) was built, in which he currently works. The radio center broadcast the First program of the All-Union Radio and the Mayak with the help of Dozhd-2 transmitters placed on a new mast with a height of 180 m [7] .

On March 16, 1962, the first television program from Moscow was broadcast on Izhevsk [8] .

In 1964, a television repeater was commissioned in Kambarka. In 1969, a powerful radio television station in Balezino was commissioned. Thanks to it, residents of the northern part of the Udmurt Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic could receive the First Program of the Central Television and Radio Program “The First Union Program” and “Lighthouse”. Coverage of the population of the republic with television broadcasting increased to 70%, broadcasting - up to 80% [9] .


1970-1980s

In 1970, Izhevsk hosted the broadcasting of the Second All-Union Program of Central Television, and the Izhevsk - Balezino radio relay line (RRL), 124 km long, was put into operation.

In 1980, the broadcast of color broadcasts of the Udmurt television began [10] .

In 1982, a broadcast of the Second All-Union Program was organized from the transmitting station in Balezino.

On September 1, 1988, a new transmission station was put into operation in Izhevsk (the village of Varaksino, Zavyalovsky District), the mast height is 340 meters. Two ATRS-50/5 television transmitters (25 kW) and two VHF-FM transmitters (4 kW) began to operate. The introduction of high-power transmitters made it possible to increase the coverage of the Ukrainian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic with television to 80%.

In 1989, the Third Television Program “Petersburg - Channel 5” was broadcast in Izhevsk.


1990s

In 1991, a powerful medium-wave broadcasting station was commissioned in the village of Karashur, Yakshur-Bodyinsky District. The mast height is 142 m. A medium-wave transmitter has been installed for broadcasting the Radio of Russia program at a frequency of 594 kHz [11] .

In April 1993, the first commercial television company Arsenal-Video began broadcasting in Izhevsk.

In 1995, a mast 198 meters high was commissioned in Kizner. Residents of the southern part of Udmurtia got the opportunity to watch the TV program Channel One, and in 1999, Russia. Coverage of the republic’s population with the First Television Program approached 90% [11] .

2000s

In 2002, the radio and television center became a branch of the structure of the federal state unitary enterprise “Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network” [12] .

In 2000-2004, digital radio-relay lines (RRL) were put into operation in the Udmurt Republic, used to transmit television and broadcasting signals, and organize digital communication channels between objects and mobile operators. The total length of the RRL in 2005 reached 400 km.

In 2009, a regional satellite network was put into operation, designed to deliver the Russia 1 and Radio Russia programs with the program inserts of the state television and radio company Udmurtiya broadcasting facilities. It included a fiber-optic communication line between the hardware-studio complex of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Udmurtia and the Udmurt Radio Television Center RTRS, transmitting the Signal 37 satellite station and 12 ground receiving stations [13] .


Activities Today

From 2011 to 2018, RTRS created a digital terrestrial television network from 38 transmitting stations. The first digital broadcast facilities began testing in September 2013 in Kizner, Balezino, Debes and Votkinsk [14] .

On October 17, 2013, the programs of the first multiplex (RTRS-1) became available for residents of Izhevsk and its environs. The official launch of digital terrestrial television in Udmurtia was attended by President of the Udmurt Republic Alexander Volkov [15] .

In 2014, in test mode, the programs of the second multiplex became available for residents of Izhevsk, Votinka, Balezino and Glazov [16] .

On July 10, 2017, acting Head of the Udmurt Republic, Alexander Brechalov solemnly launched the digital broadcasting of the programs of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company “Udmurtia” as part of the first multiplex [17] . Regional programs on the TV channels “Russia 1” and “Russia 24” and radio stations “Radio Russia” became available in digital quality for residents of the Udmurt Republic [18] .

In December 2017, the Udmurt Radio Television Center RTRS completed the construction of a digital television and radio network in the region. The programs of the first multiplex became available for 99.28% of the population of the republic [19] . And exactly one year later, in December 2018, the branch turned on all the transmitters of the second multiplex (RTRS-2) in the region [20] .

On April 15, 2019, the Udmurt Republic turned off analog broadcasting of federal television channels and completely switched to digital television [21] .

At 11:40 local time, 37 analogue transmitters stopped broadcasting in the republic.


Broadcasting Organization

RTRS broadcasts in the Udmurt Republic:

- 20 television channels and three radio stations in digital format;

- 15 television channels and 19 radio stations in analog format.

The production and technical complex of the radio television center equipment includes:

- 54 powerful transmitter;

- 71 low power transmitter;

- 95 receiving satellite stations;

- one transmitting satellite communication station;

- Six radio-relay communication lines with a total length of 326.3 km.

The organizational and technological structure of the branch includes:

- republican radio television center;

- Regional center for the formation of multiplexes;

- one radio television transmitting station;

- two workshops;

- 40 radio television stations;

- three intermediate radio relay stations;

- 48 antenna mast structures [22]
