Adlershof ( German: Adlershof ) is an administrative district in the Treptow-Köpenick district of Berlin .
The area is now known as the “city of science, technology and the media." Earlier in this area was located the Johannisthal airfield ( German: Flugplatz Johannisthal ), from which the first German motor aircraft was launched. In 1912, the German Institute for Experimental Aviation ( German: Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt , DVL) built its headquarters in Adlershof. Laboratories and test benches installed in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century are now historical monuments.
In 1918, at the Adlershof airfield, a series of fighter contests of various designs were held, which were to strengthen German aviation during the First World War . After World War II, the airport was closed.
In 1952, broadcasting from the GDR television began from Adlershof.
Interesting Facts
One of the streets of Adlershof is named after the Soviet physicist Abram Fedorovich Ioffe ( German: Abram-Joffe Straße ).
