The picture is a bust portrait of Lieutenant General Yeremey Yakovlevich Savoini from the composition of the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace [1] .
During the Patriotic War of 1812, Colonel Savoini was the chief of the Ladoga Infantry Regiment and commanded the 1st Brigade of the 26th Infantry Division, was wounded in the Borodino battle and promoted to major general . In the overseas campaign especially distinguished himself during the siege of Hamburg [2] .
It is depicted in a general's uniform, introduced for infantry generals on May 7, 1817; a fur overcoat is thrown over the shoulders. On the left, a Star of the Order of St. Anne , 1st Class; on the neck are crosses of the orders of St. George of the 3rd degree and St. Vladimir of the 3rd degree; on the right, on the chest is the gold cross “For the Capture of Ishmael” , the silver medal “In commemoration of the Patriotic War of 1812” on the St. Andrew’s ribbon and the bronze noble medal “In commemoration of the Patriotic War of 1812” on the Vladimirskaya ribbon . On the back of the picture is the inscription: Savoyne . Signed on the frame with an error in the initials and surnames: I.V. Savoina, General Mayor [3] .
On August 7, 1820, the Committee of the General Staff for Certification Savoini was included in the list of “generals deserving to be written in the gallery” and on February 10, 1822, Emperor Alexander I ordered his portrait to be painted. The Dow fee was paid on October 16, 1826, and January 15, 1828. The finished portrait was accepted into the Hermitage on January 21, 1828. Since the previous delivery of finished portraits to the Hermitage took place on July 8, 1827, the portrait of Savoini is considered to be written between these dates [4] .
In the 1840s, a lithograph was taken from the portrait in the workshop of I. P. Pesotsky , published in the book "Emperor Alexander I and his Companions" and subsequently repeatedly reproduced [5] . There is another lithograph from this portrait, differing in fine details.
