Biography

Burton Justram was born on June 5, 1910 in the city of San Francisco , California . It has German roots.

A graduate of Auckland High School. He was engaged in rowing while studying at the University of California at Berkeley , was a member of the local California Golden Bears rowing team, and took part in various student regattas several times, in particular, he won the championship of the Inter-University Rowing Association (IRA) in eights in 1932 [1] [ 2] .

The highest success in rowing at the international level was achieved in the 1932 season, when he joined the main team of the American national team and thanks to a series of successful performances he was awarded the right to defend the honor of the country at the home summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles . As part of the eight-wing oversized crew with the helmsman in the final, he beat all his rivals, including two tenths of a second ahead of his closest pursuers from Italy, and thereby won the Olympic gold medal [3] .

He graduated from the university in 1932 with a degree in architecture . Subsequently, he became a fairly successful architect, was engaged in the design of buildings and structures in the oil company Standard Oil , was a member of various architectural societies and associations [4] .

In 1935 he married Francis Wanless Christie, in 1942, the couple had a daughter, Katie Ann [5] .

He died on May 20, 1995 in Auckland , California, at the age of 84.
