Biography
James Blair was born on October 28, 1909 in the city of Plaserville , California .
He was engaged in rowing while studying at the University of California at Berkeley , was a member of the local California Golden Bears rowing team, and repeatedly participated in various student regattas, in particular, in 1928 he won the championship of the Inter-University Rowing Association (IRA) in eight. With a height of 185 cm and a weight of 76 kg, he was the smallest rower in the university eight.
The highest success in rowing at the international level was achieved at the end of the university in the 1932 season, when he joined the main team of the American national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Los Angeles Home Summer Olympics . As part of the eight-wing oversized crew with the helmsman in the final, he beat all his rivals, including two tenths of a second ahead of his closest pursuers from Italy, and thereby won the Olympic gold medal.
Subsequently, he worked in the packaging industry.
He died on May 23, 1993 in Plaserville at the age of 82.
