Mary Christian ( born Mary Christian , nee Perry ); June 12, 1889 - April 20, 2003 ) is an American centenarian. From December 29, 2002 until her death, she was the oldest living person in the United States .

Biography
Mary Dorothy Perry was born June 12, 1889 in Taunton , Massachusetts , in a family that had Portuguese roots. She later moved with her family to San Pablo , California . As a teenager, she worked at the East Bay Chocolate Factory and witnessed the San Francisco earthquake .
In 1907, Mary married. In the marriage, two sons were born, whom she survived. In 1922, Christian divorced. After that, she worked at several jobs, including a lifter and a seller in a department store. In 1971, Mary retired. She lived in her house until she was 102 years old, after which she moved to a nursing home.
In December 2002, after the death of May Harrington , Mary Christian became the oldest living resident of the United States . On April 20, 2003, she died at the age of 113, 312 days. At the time of her death, she had 2 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
