History
The founders of the Kamensky dynasty - Fedor Kozmich and Grigory Kozmich went from serf coachmen Prince Golitsyn to the richest merchants of the city of Perm. Perm local historian V. S. Verkholantsev wrote at the beginning of the twentieth century: [2]
“Coming from the suburban Perm village of Danilikhi and not having received any education, they made up capital of several million by their own labor.”
Before the abolition of serfdom, they bought themselves free, after which they organized horse transportation from Moscow to China — six thousand versts, with transshipment bases and removable cabs. Then took up the affairs of the ship. In 1858-1859, the brothers built their first towing boat, the Worker; the carriage of goods by water began to bring them significant profits. In 1862, the brothers already had two towing steamships, and after successful navigation they donated 8,000 rubles for the construction of the Resurrection Church in memory of the liberation of the peasants from serfdom.
In 1865 the passenger shipping company of the Kamensky brothers was founded - passengers were transported between Perm and Nizhny Novgorod by the steamers “John”, “Mikhail”, “Alexander”, “Vasily”, named after the sons of the Kamensky brothers. In 1871, they founded the trading house “Shipping Company Partnership and Freight Transportation F. and G. Kamensky Brothers”, which transported goods through Russia by water. In 1874, on the banks of the Kama River, the Kamensky brothers built and commissioned a casting and mechanical plant for the production of iron, construction and repair of ships. [3] The Kamensky brothers factory was built by an Englishman Hector Gullet. It was this civil engineer who moved to Tyumen for permanent residence, was the founder of the entire Ural Shipping Company: he built both the Tyumen and Yekaterinburg steam-shipyards, borrowing the latest technologies from Great Britain and America. [4] Some children of Fyodor and Grigory Kamenskikh to disperse the affairs of the company dispersed throughout the country: Vasily Fedorovich dealt with the affairs of the company in the Petersburg office, Mikhail Fedorovich - in Nizhny Novgorod, Alexei Grigorievich - in Moscow. [five]
In 1893, the Partnership passed into the hands of the sons of Fedor Kozmich - Mikhail and Vasily, as well as Grigory Kozmich - Alexei, Alexander and Ivan. At the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries, the time of the highest development of the Kamensky family business fell. They acquired cotton plantations in the Tashkent district, and in Tashkent itself cotton and rope plants. In many cities, their shipping company had marinas and warehouses. In Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg [6] , Riga, there were branches of the Partnership. As of 1915, there were more than 15 vessels in the Kamensky shipping company. [7]
