Born December 10, 1936 in Kursk in a family of employees. In 1940, he moved to Riga with his parents.

He graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1954-1960) and his graduate school (1963).

Since 1963 he has been working at the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (RAS) (Chernogolovka branch): junior researcher at the department of free radicals, senior researcher, since 1977 Laboratory of Laser Analytical Spectroscopy, since 2013 Chief Researcher at the Laboratory of Chemical Lasers.

In 1969 he defended his thesis on "The study of the radiation resistance of aromatic and conjugated compounds and the mechanism of low-temperature stabilization of radicals in organic matrices."

Doctor of physico-mathematical sciences (1982), professor.
