Duke de Valencia de Campos

Duke de Valencia de Campos - Spanish noble title. It was created in 1387 by the king of Castile Juan I for the infante Juan of Portugal (1349-1397), the son of King of Portugal Pedro I and his metresses Ines de Castro . In his honor, the city of Valencia de Campos was renamed Valencia de Don Juan .

In 1465, the King of Castile Enrique IV restored the ducal title for Juan de Acuña and Portugal, 3rd Earl de Valencia de Don Juan (great-grandson of the Infant Juan of Portugal). During the War of the Castilian Succession, Juan de Acuna and Portugal were on the side of Juana Beltraneja , daughter of King Enrique IV , against the latter's sister, the Infanta Isabella . In 1475, the castle of Valencia de Don Juan was besieged and captured by supporters of Isabella the Catholic. During the assault on the castle, don Juan de Acuna and Portugal died. After his death, the ducal title ceased to exist.
