Biography

Born in 1838 in Prussia , in the city of Halberstadt , in the family of the director of the Gotthold Schöne Gymnasium. Higher education was received first at the University of Halle an der Saale, then at the Humboldt University of Berlin . Poverty forced the talented young man to leave his homeland. He decided to start a new life in Russia [1] .

In 1863, Emil Schöne, carrying the recommendations of professors K. Rammelsberg and G. Rosa , came to Moscow and, according to tradition, changed his name into Russian, becoming Emilius Bogdanovich Schöne. In 1864, he, under the guidance of Professor P. A. Ilyenkov, began to work as an assistant to the chemical laboratory in the newly created Petrovsky Agricultural and Forestry Academy . At that time, the laboratory was in the current 9th building [1] .

He was an assistant in the Department of Chemistry until 1869, then he was appointed a teacher of inorganic and analytical chemistry at the Petrovsky Academy, and headed the laboratory [1] . Since 1875 - professor. In 1881 he defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Gottingen and Moscow . After the opening of the Moscow Agricultural Institute, he was appointed professor of the institute.

He died in 1896 .

Scientific activity

Schöne's works are devoted to the chemistry of atmospheric ozone and hydrogen peroxide [1] , the study of soils, fertilizers, etc. He is also the inventor of the apparatus for mechanical soil analysis, which was widely used not only in Russia but also abroad [1] .
