Biography
Born on November 2 ( 14 ), 1899 [2] in Vitebsk (then Vitebsk gubernia , Russian empire , now Belarus ) in the family of an official. He graduated from 7 classes [2] gymnasiums, from 1918 he worked in newspapers, in 1919 he was drafted into the Red Army , first served as an ordinary Red Army man, then became a political officer in parts of the 5th army [2] , after he worked as an editor in a number of newspapers and magazines ( “Army Political Worker”, “Revolution and War”, “Red Oath” [2] ), in the same year joined the VKP (b) [1] . Since 1924 he has been working as political editor at the Supreme Military Editorial Council in Moscow [2] .
In 1926 he joined the RAPP , since 1927 - deputy editor of the magazine "October" [2] [3] , in 1931 got a job as executive secretary of the Leningrad Association of Proletarian Writers [1] . In 1936, he became one of the editors of the book “Bolshevtsy”, one of the goals of which was to popularize the People's Commissar of the NKVD Heinrich Yagoda . In September 1936, Yagoda was removed from office, arrested in March 1937, and executed the following year. Copies of the book were seized and destroyed [3] .
A participant in the Great Patriotic War , volunteered [4] to the front; at the end of 1941 he was appointed to the newspaper’s editorial office of the 43rd Army Defender of the Fatherland, but a month later, in December 1941, he was sent as the war correspondent of the newspaper of the 64th Army For the Homeland! [3] . In 1942 he became a senior political leader. Having received an editorial assignment, he described the course of the Battle of Stalingrad and was killed on September 28, 1942 [1] at the command post of the 64th Army with a shell fragment. The grave is located on the right [5] bank of the Volga , in the Beketovka area [4] . According to some reports, the remains were later reburied in a large mass grave on Mamayev Kurgan [3] .
Creativity
He made his debut in 1918 [2] , but the first serious work was published in the journal " Projector " [1] [6] . Author of several stories about the establishment of Soviet power in the village (“In the Woods” (1925), “Everyday Life of Comrade Elizarov” (1926), etc.), stories about new human relations (“Farmers” (1927), etc.), works for children (“Pigeons” (1939), etc.), works about the war (“Return. Front-line notes” (1942), “The local wind” (1950, publ. posthumously)). He wrote several articles on literature and the book For Martial Art Essay ( L. , 1931) [1] .
In the village, class struggle unfolds before collectivization: the youth - "sons" - fight for the new system and way of life, and the older generation - the "fathers" - firmly defend the old, using any methods - arson (the story "Farmers"), open murder (" The story of a simple "), murder from the corner (the story" Gramophone ") [6] .
Among the shortcomings of Luzgin's creativity, the feuilletonism of the “manner”, the monotony of the language, the schematism of the construction of the work [6] were noted.
