Biography
Born November 22, 1887 in the family of a bank clerk. Graduated from Moscow University . Since 1905, acted as a literary and theatrical critic, published critical articles and theater reviews in the provincial press. From 1910 he collaborated in theatrical printing. For several years he worked as a director in a number of large cities in the Russian province.
In the future - a critic and historian of the Moscow Art Theater . He was also the head of the literary part of the Moscow Art Theater of the 2nd . He worked as a teacher of the history of the theater at the Higher Institute of National Education in Kazan , at the Kiev Theater Technical School , the Shchepkin Theater School and GITIS . Creativity
Sobolev is the author of creative portraits of M. M. Tarkhanov , I. M. Moskvin , S. V. Giatsintova , V. F. Komissarzhevskaya , P. N. Orlenev , M. N. Ermolova and other actors, books on the history of the theater [1 ] . He wrote a lot about the performances of the Moscow Art Theater [1] . In 1918 he published the first monograph on V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko . On the 40th anniversary of the Moscow Art Theater, in 1938, his book “Moscow Art Theater. Essays.
Most of all, Sobolev is known as the researcher of the life and work of A.P. Chekhov . He devoted over one hundred articles to this topic. His great merit consists in collecting the lost and unpublished pages of the writer's works, careful bibliography of Chekhov literature. Nevertheless, the research work on Chekhov, despite the abundance of particulars, does not have a sustained point of view and is marked by eclecticism .
Also written by Sobolev belong to the play "Humiliated and Offended" and "In the ravine". They represent the processing of the works of the same name by F. M. Dostoevsky and A. P. Chekhov.
