Biography
Warren Westlund was born on August 20, 1926 in the city of Olympia , Washington .
Engaged in rowing while studying at the University of Washington in Seattle, was in the local rowing team "Washington Huskis", repeatedly participated in various student regattas.
He achieved the highest success in rowing at the international level in the season of 1948, when he joined the main team of the American national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, won the right to defend the honor of the country at the Summer Olympics in London . As part of the crew of four with a helmsman in the finals he walked all his rivals, including three seconds ahead of his closest pursuers from Switzerland, and thereby won the Olympic gold medal.
Subsequently, he founded his own company for the sale of cars Warren Westlund Buick-GMC, participated in the activities of a number of organizations related to the automotive business.
He continued to participate in competitions in rowing as an organizer. For many years he was a member of the board of the rowing stewards of the University of Washington. In 1981, for outstanding achievements in rowing, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the University of Washington.
He died on February 13, 1992 in Seattle at the age of 65.
