Relationship History
- November 11, 1992 : Establishment of official relations between Belarus and the Vatican.
- 2009 : President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko during his visit to Italy met with Pope Benedict and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi [1] .
- 2015 : Pope Francis sent a letter to A. Lukashenko requesting the release of all political prisoners [1] .
- October 11, 2018 : on the occasion of the meeting of the Synod, the chairman of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Belarus, Metropolitan Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, held a conversation with Pope Francis [2] .
- January 7 - 10, 2019 : Ambassador of Belarus to Great Britain and the Holy See concurrently Sergey Aleinik visited the Vatican, where he discussed with Pope Francis and Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin urgent issues of further development of cooperation, interaction in international organizations. The parties also exchanged views on the situation in the region [3] .
