History

Mentioned in the letter of the Moldavian ruler Alexander the Good of April 25, 1420 as Kishno-Varzarevsky . According to this document, the boyar was transferred to Vienna land that was previously in the possession of the monastery [1] . The same letter mentions that the clerk of the monastery was the boyar Stan Verzar [2] .

In the XVII century, it was repeatedly ruined by the Tatars and Turks. In 1770 it was restored by the works of Vlasius Makaresko (in monasticism - Varlaam) and his son Constantine. The brotherhood of the Varzareşti monastery, headed by Hieromonk Varlaam (Makaresko), renewed the Ginkul Paraskevievsky monastery [1] .

In the early 1810s, Archimandrite Victor and one monk lived in the monastery, so in 1815 the monastery was converted into a female monastery. The inhabitants of the Kosoutsky monastery , led by the nun Syncliticia, moved to the Varzarestsky monastery . In 1840, the icon of the Mother of God was moved from the Rudyansky monastery , later nicknamed Vazaresti . In 1846, the Rudyansky monastery was assigned to the Varzarestsky monastery. In 1863, the stone Dimitrievsky Cathedral was built, in 1868 - the winter church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1903, the monastery owned 190 acres of land, in 1908 - 206 acres of land and 47 acres of forest. In 1908, 28 nuns and 52 novices lived, in 1917 - 40 nuns and 67 novices [1] . In 1918, the total number of inhabitants reached 135 people [3] .

Closed by the authorities in 1959 [1] . The building of the summer church was used as a warehouse, and the winter - as a club [3] . In 1990, the monastery was revived. In April 2005, 28 inhabitants lived in it [1] .
