How the music of the original (one-song) song Mille regretz looks is unknown. Its first known treatment, the four-part chanson , belongs to Zhosken Despres [1] . The wide popularity of the song in the 15th-16th centuries is evidenced by compositions on its material from the Spanish (Mass Cristobal de Morales , variations for the vihuela "La Canción del Emperador" by Luis de Narvaez ) and Franco-Flemish (Chanson by Nicolas Gombert and Tilman Susato ), numerous anonymous song inlays for lute and keyboards.
