Denis Papen's car (1690)
- February 3 - The first issue of paper money in America was held in the North American British Colony of the Massachusetts Bay .
- Giovanni Domenico Cassini discovered the differential rotation of the atmosphere of Jupiter [1] .
- December - royal astronomer John Flemsteed at Greenwich , as it turned out much later, was the first to observe the planet Uranus , but took it for a star. Subsequently, he observed Uranus a few more times, but retained his delusion. The discovery of Uranus took place only in 1781 [2] .
- French inventor Denis Papin built the first working model of a steam engine for pumping water from mines [3] .
- Edmund Halley designed the first model of a diving bell [4] .

- The Venetian cartographer Vincenzo Maria Coronelli published the monumental atlas of the world " Atlante Veneto " [5] .
- French mathematician Michel Rolle in his treatise “ Traité d'Algebre ” gave the first in Europe description of a general algorithm for solving linear systems of equations , now known as the “ Gauss method ”.
- Jacques Ozanam published " Mathematical Dictionary " ( Fr. Dictionnaire mathematique ).
- Newton wrote the anti-Trinitarian treatise " Historical tracking of two noticeable distortions of Holy Scripture ." The legislative act of 1697 " On the suppression of blasphemy and dishonesty " prohibited the denial of the Trinity under the penalty of prison, therefore, Newton's work was published only in the more tolerant 1754 year.
