Biography
He was born in the village of Reclinets (now Sokalsky district in Lviv region) in a teacher’s family. He studied at the Sokal gymnasium.
He became a member of the OUN in 1933. In 1934 he was sentenced to 10 years for terrorist activities against the Polish authorities. On the eve of the Second World War, he headed the county wire OUN Zhovkivschiny, later - the regional conductor OUN in Kholmshchina (1939-1940). The teacher, organized with the assistance of Abwehr , the Krakow preparatory courses of the Security Council of the OUN on conspiracy.
In March 1940, he was seriously wounded in an exchange of fire with Soviet border guards about trying to cross the Soviet-German demarcation line [2] .
At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, Mayivsky was appointed as the referent of the regional wire of the OUN to the ZUZ, whose main task was to coordinate the actions of the OUN hiking groups. Member of hiking groups and in 1941-42 - deputy regional guide of the OUN / OUN-SD in Kiev.
On November 21, 1942, he was ambushed by the Gestapo officers near the OUN safe house in Lviv . He refused to surrender and instead pulled out a pistol and shot in the head with SS Sturmsharführer SS Gerhard Scharf and wounded an employee of the PCHA, and he, despite the two bullets he had received, ran away [3] [4] .
But in retaliation for this incident, on November 27, the Nazis shot 27 nationalists imprisoned in Lviv (among them are Stepan Bandera’s brother, Andrei Pyasetsky, a member of the UD) and 52 in the Old Yagelnitsa near Chortkova .
Editor-in-Chief of the OUN body "Idea and Chin" (1942, 1944-45), "For the Independence of Ukraine", "Young Ukraine". From May 1943 in the troika of members of the Bureau of the Provisional OUN (next to Roman Shukhevych and Zinoviy Matloy), he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Bureau.
He was one of the initiators of the creation of the anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Peoples and the Ukrainian Main Liberation Council (UGVR), and on their instructions, in December 1945, together with Dmitry Gritsay, was sent to meet with Stepan Bandera, Yaroslav Stetsko and other members of the Bureau of the Wire who were abroad , to coordinate the actions of the resistance movement.
Doom
When crossing the Czech-German border, he was ambushed by the Czech police. During a short bout, Dmitry Mayivsky shot himself, and Dmitry Gritsai was captured and executed in Prague prison after some time (according to other sources, he committed suicide) [5] .
