Lomo, Tony

Tony Lomo ( born Tony Lomo ; born , ) is a Solomon judo fighter, representative of the super lightweight category. He has been playing for the national judo team of the Solomon Islands since 2007, a silver and bronze medalist of the Oceania championships, and a participant in the Summer Olympic Games in London .

Biography

Tony Lomo was born on December 17, 1983 in the settlement of Takva on the island of Malaita , Solomon Islands .

He made his debut at the adult international level in the 2007 season, when he entered the main squad of the Solomon national team and spoke at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro , where he was stopped by Greek Lavrentios Aleksanidis in the 1/32 finals of the super lightweight category.

In 2009, he took seventh place in the World Cup in Apia.

In 2010, he was fifth in the championship of Oceania in Canberra, was noted for his performances at the World Cup in Apia and at the world championship in Tokyo , where he lost to the Uzbek Gabit Esimbetov in the 1/32 finals.

In 2011, he again became fifth in the championship of Oceania, took seventh place in the World Cup in Apia, and attended the world championship in Paris .

He achieved the greatest success in his sports career in the 2012 season, when he won a bronze medal at the Oceania Championships in Cairns and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in London . In the category of up to 60 kg, Mozambique's representative Neuzo Sigauke successfully passed his first opponent in the tournament bracket, while in the second duel in the 1/8 finals he was defeated by the Frenchman Sofyan Milu and thus dropped out of the further struggle for medals [1] . In addition, he performed at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo and at the World Cup in Jeju, but here he was also far from being among the winners.

After the London Olympics, Lomo remained an active athlete, although he significantly reduced his competitive activity. In 2014, he performed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , where he lost in his first fight [2] .

In 2017, he won a silver medal at the Oceania Championship in Tonga.

In 2018, he fought at the World Cup in Perth.
