Since 2014, he began working in the Anti-Corruption Fund as a lawyer, and later was appointed head of the legal department of FBK. Had experience in Rostov-on-Don .
Barvikha Council of Deputies Election
In 2016, he was registered as a candidate (as a self-nominated candidate) to the Council of Deputies of the rural settlement of Barvikhinskoye . During the election campaign against Ivan Zhdanov, a criminal case was opened for evading army service (part 1 of article 328 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ), and they also searched his apartment [1] [2] . Subsequently, the elections were canceled by the CEC, FBK representatives associated the cancellation of the elections with complaints submitted by them regarding early voting, but Ella Pamfilova said that the elections were canceled for completely different reasons [3] . Zhdanov said that the cancellation of the election results is a confirmation of the correctness of the candidates from the Anti-Corruption Fund [4] .
Bulk Presidential Campaign
In 2017-2018, he participated in the election campaign for access to the presidential election of Alexei Navalny . Several times during the campaign he was a defender in court of the head of the Navalny’s headquarters Leonid Volkov , who was detained for repeated violation of the rules of rallies . He chaired the meeting to nominate Navalny as candidates [5] .

As a result, the Tverskoy court of Moscow fined Zhdanov 20 thousand rubles [10] .

2019 Moscow City Duma Election
He nominated himself as a deputy of the Moscow City Duma at the 2019 election in the constituency No. 8 (Airport, Voikovsky, Koptevo, Sokol) as a self-nominated person [14] . Boris Zolotarevsky, coordinator of the Chelyabinsk headquarters of Navalny, headed the candidate’s election headquarters [15] . The team managed to collect about 5,700 signatures (sufficient for delivery to the district election commission), which were submitted on July 6 [16] . According to the results of the audit, 100% of the election commission officials said that 1,197 out of 5,700 signatures are invalid, which is 21% of the total number of signatures with an acceptable 10% of “defective” signatures, this is the basis for removing Zhdanov from the election race [17] [18] . Zhdanov, with a number of other opposition candidates, did not agree with the results of the verification of signatures, declared the rejection of signatures to be unlawful, pointing to the political motivation of the decision to prevent opposition candidates from running for the election. After that, he, together with other opposition candidates, participated in daily protests, and also spoke at a rally on Sakharov Avenue on July 20 for the admission of all opposition candidates to the city duma [19] [20] . He participated in solitary pickets for the admission of independent candidates before the election, for which he was also detained and released without drawing up a protocol on July 22 [21] . On the night of July 25, police officers came to the apartment to search Zhdanov, who on the same night took him away for interrogation as part of a criminal case instituted a day earlier under article 141 [22] [23] . He participated in the protest on July 27, in connection with which he was detained in the first half of this day before the start of the action [24] . By evening, he and other unregistered candidates were released. The second time in a day was detained by police on Trubnaya Square [25] . On July 29, the court arrested Zhdanov for 15 days, after which, contrary to the law, he was taken to serve his arrest in another region - Moscow Region , the city of Lyubertsy [26] [27] .
On August 2, the Moscow City Court recognized the refusal to register Ivan Zhdanov as a candidate for the Moscow City Duma, despite the fact that the certificate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs contradicted the agreement of the CEC and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (the court decided that the agreement was advisory in nature and that it was impossible to disclose personal data from the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs), as well as refusing to consider the evidence Muscovites that they really left a signature for Zhdanov [28] [29] . In response, the politician went on a hunger strike: “I no longer have any ways and opportunities to convey my position. From this day on, I go on a hunger strike and refuse to eat. I will no longer answer questions, I refuse to participate in this hearing ” [30] .
