Leonid Pavlovich - author of paintings, portraits, landscapes and still lifes. A painter who acutely senses the beauty of life, has a bright individual handwriting, in the 1970s he successfully made his debut in the creation of a number of monumental paintings and reliefs. Monumental art, which for a long time did not receive sufficient development in the city, in these years thanks to the capable young graduates of Moscow universities L.P. Verichev, N.M. Mochalov, N.M. Smirnov, L.G. Sergeev, is gaining strength visibly and confidently. According to the developed sketches of L. P. Verichev and under his direct supervision of the creative team, which included his students I. Yu. Dashevsky, S. Makovei, large-scale monumental compositions were performed: painting in the hostel of the pedagogical institute on the theme “Spring”, canvas design dispatcher "Signalman" on the theme "Kostroma", interior painting of the working club "Red Weaver", dedicated to the revolutionary events of 1905 in Kostroma, and other important works. Leonid Pavlovich constantly searched in his monumental compositions for plastic expressive forms and various artistic techniques. The subject of these murals is devoted to folklore, the historical past, modern life: sports, youth, the beauty of the nature of the native land. These murals organically enter the interiors and exteriors of new buildings, in the spatial and natural environment. In easel paintings, he invariably follows the classical traditions of the Renaissance and Russian art of the 18th century. Leonid Verichev’s painting is distinguished by its fine technique of modeling figures and household items and careful attention to details. A student of the RSFSR People's Artist T. M. Korzhev, he is fluent in drawing and boldly uses the conventions and monumentality of pictorial techniques, achieving purity, saturation and color diversity.
At the republican exhibition of young artists (Moscow-1972). His painting “Red sowing” was exhibited. The joy of liberated labor in the first year after the revolution is shown in the confident march of the red sowers. new owners of the earth, strong, large figures in the foreground, personifying the generation of our elder fathers, mothers and their sons. The light color system of red shades is in tune with the breath of a new updated time. As a teacher, he was a sensitive and demanding mentor and enjoyed great authority among teachers and students. You can name dozens of his students, successfully working as teachers of fine art in the schools of the city and region, gifted painters, members of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation.
L.P. Verichev was a strict and principled member of the artistic council of production workshops, he did not tolerate dullness in art and firmly defended the position of high professional skill and authority of the organization.
The monumental works of L.P. Verichev, with significant figurative content, adorn the architectural complexes of the city: his portraits of his contemporaries and informative still lifes made a significant contribution to the artistic annals of the Kostroma Territory. Personal exhibition of paintings and drawings by the master is a graceful tribute to the memory and deep respect of the Kostroma talented painter. [one]
Characteristics of some of the work of L.P. Verichev
At the republican exhibition of young artists (Moscow-1972), his painting "Red Sowing" was exhibited. The joy of liberated labor in the first year after the revolution is shown in the confident march of the red sowers. new owners of the earth, strong, large figures in the foreground, personifying the generation of our elder fathers, mothers and their sons. The light color system of red shades is in tune with the breath of a new updated time.
The painting "The harsh voice of war" (1987) responds with severe pain in the heart of each of us, recalls the bitterness of heavy losses and the courageous test of the people. From the dark darkness in the depths of the canvas, the exhilarating voice of Levitan sounds muffled in the old reproducer. There are heavy winter fights in 1941, the enemy is approaching Moscow. In a cold room with tinted windows, mother, drinking valerian drops. rose from the table. hung the shawl on the chair and lay down on the bed. A crumpled tear-stained handkerchief, a glass of water, an unclosed bottle. a photo of a young fighter, left on the table, says a lot. The theme of the Great Patriotic War was reflected in the portrait of Hero of the Soviet Union Yuri Smirnov, “Your Twilight is Immortal.” In the portrait genre, the author achieves a deep inner strength, along with charm and spiritual beauty. clear and thoughtful compositional construction.
In "Self-portrait with a book" artist. using a retrospective costumed technique, as if he introduced himself in the atmosphere of the 18th century. He holds an open book with a reproduction of a portrait of A. S. Lermontov’s work by Grigory Ostrovsky and the inscription “Soligalichsky finds”. From the depths of the darkened background stands the silhouette of an artist clutching a thin brush in his right hand. Soft waved hairs fall on the forehead. In the pensive look of dark eyes, concentration and reflection are felt. It is no coincidence that the author uses the stillness of the figure composition, introduces the antique details of the costume decoration in the form of a large sapphire cufflink on a light yellow shirt, gives a muffled dark ocher complexion and hands. In subsequent portraits, he significantly departs from the stylization of old traditions, seeking greater independence in revealing the nature of the model. So, for example, in the bosom portrait of Tanya, a teacher of drawing and drawing at Sukhonogovskaya secondary school, she simulates the life-convincing image of her student with soft chiaroscuro. Unassuming Russian beauty, an abundance of youth and intimacy are well conveyed in this canvas. Other artistic means were used in the large-scale portrait of “A Young Man with a Vase” (artist Yuri Tyurin). The hymn to creativity, youth and timeless art sounds intense in the major chord of light orange, ocher and golden colors that shimmer in the curls of a brown head, on a yellow sweater, bronze on a vase, a shining background of evening sunset. In a later “Portrait of Mother” with special warmth and respect he pays tribute to Nadezhda Mikhailovna. Truly bold, broad manner, "in the style of Rembrandt," he painted the image of an old woman with a face that has been bereaved for years, a little sad, penetrating eyes radiating wisdom. For more than ten years, a seriously ill mother was bedridden, and her son does not leave her without attention and care for a single day. In memory of her mother, her difficult youth, the Kostroma textile worker of the 1930s painted her another portrait on a light rainbow background with a garland of flowers. Leonid Pavlovich fruitfully worked on the landscape. In "Spring Motive" (1976), "Winter Landscape" (1985). “Warm evening” and “On the Volga” (1988), the attentive look of the monumental artist is wide, free, as if from a bird's eye view of the expanses of fields and spills of the Kostroma Sea, a wide panorama of the Volga city.
