Biography

It is believed that the grandfather of Mikhail Alexandrovich, also Mikhail, was one of the sons of Mikhail Afanasevich Sibiryakov. However, this has not been reliably established. He was born in an impoverished merchant family, which in such a sad state was given to him by father Alexander Mikhailovich and as a result, until 1837, was written by a tradesman [1] .

In the early 1840s, Sibiryakov’s affairs improved, and in 1849 he was already listed as a merchant of the first guild. To a large extent, this was facilitated by the successful investment of capital in the gold industry. In 1848, Mikhail Alexandrovich discovered signs of gold in the valley of the Homolkho River , and later - in the Lena basin.

In the early 1860s, he, together with I.I. Bazanov , I.N. Trapeznikov, Ya. A. Nemchinov , created the Zheltukhinsky gold mining partnership, which initially owned four mines, and by 1863 there were twenty-five of them. At the beginning of 1864, this partnership was liquidated, and the former partners founded a new mutual unit partnership called “Coastal-Vitim Co” (gold mining, the agreement was signed in 1865). Participation in the company was divided into thirteen shares, of which three belonged to Mikhail Afanasevich. He owned the Annunciation, Stefano-Afanasyevsky and Mikhailovsky mines.

In 1864, Mikhail Afanasevich Sibiryakov founded the city of Bodaibo as a mining Bodaibo residence (cargo warehouse) serving the Stefano-Afanasyevsky mine. By July 1865, up to thirty mines were already open, the company's turnover grew, as did the profits of the shareholders. After the death of I. N. Trapeznikov, it was decided to establish a new gold mining company - "Industry Company in various places of Eastern Siberia" (1865). The partnership extracted an average of up to 275 pounds of gold per year and earned enormous profits from this (1865–1899). As part of the gold mining company, Mikhail Alexandrovich was also a co-owner of the Bodaibo Railway (narrow gauge). In 1864, he, together with I. I. Bazanov, established the K ° Lensko-Vitim Shipping Company of Bazanov and Sibiryakov; ten years later, the partnership already owned three ships, and then five (1890). Sibiryakov invested capital in distillery . Since the 1860s, he has been a shareholder of the Voznesensky and Alexander Nevsky distilleries. In the early 1870s he was a shareholder in the construction of the Irkutsk barracks. At the end of his life, the general condition of Mikhail Afanasevich was estimated at more than 4 million rubles, of which securities amounted to 2 million 270 thousand rubles.

Community and Charity

MA Sibiryakov held a number of public and state posts: he was the director of governor guardianship in prisons, the church headman of the Ascension Church (1863-1865), and a member of the Irkutsk City Council (1860). When discussing the issues of transforming city self-government, he spoke in favor of reducing the number of employees, and, among other things, for abolishing the positions of candidates for mayor as extremely burdensome, unnecessary and disadvantageous. He was engaged in various charitable and philanthropic activities, spent considerable sums of money on various charitable undertakings: he made contributions to the guardianship of orphanages (1865), the trusteeship committee for the wounded and sick soldiers (1869), the kindergarten (1871), and the needs of the Irkutsk Ascension Monastery , for the construction of a chapel in honor of St. Innocent (1872).

At the expense of Sibiryakov (in the amount of 107 thousand rubles) in 1872, an almshouse for the elderly for ten people was built on the corner of Lugovoi and Mylnikovskaya streets in Irkutsk (now the corner of Marat and Chkalov streets). And in 1873, with the money of the industrial company Sibiryakov, Bazanov and Nemchinov, a new wooden theater building was erected to replace the previously burned one. Michael also helped residents affected by the floods.

Family

He was married to Varvara Konstantinovna Trapeznikova (1826-1867 or 1887), who after her death left capital in the amount of 47 thousand rubles. Wife Sibiryakova was the owner of several urban real estate. Children: Alexander (in the future, a well-known businessman and major philanthropist), Konstantin, Innokenty, Antonina, Anna, Olga (married to Prince V.V. Vyazemsky). Thanks to the efforts of his father, his male children received excellent education at the universities of the capital and foreign institutes, and his daughters studied at the Maiden Institute.

Notes

  1. ↑ Here, a clear contradiction is revealed with the nobility of M. A. Sibiryakov Sr. Or still, perhaps, Mikhail Alexandrovich cannot be considered his direct descendant
