Kazakh-Hungarian relations
Kazakh-Hungarian relations - relations between Kazakhstan and Hungary are characterized as strategic. A solid legal framework, the successful work of the Strategic Council, intergovernmental commissions on trade, economic and legal cooperation, as well as inter-parliamentary friendship groups contribute to deepening the interaction between the two countries.
Over more than a quarter century of partnership, trade and economic ties have actively developed, a number of joint economic projects have been successfully implemented, and a joint agricultural direct investment fund has been created. Among the major investors in our economy is the Hungarian oil and gas company MOL .
Visits to Hungary by President N. Nazarbayev (1994 and 2007) and Prime Ministers D. Akhmetov (2005) and K. Massimov (2014), as well as visits by President P. Schmitt (Hungary) gave a powerful impetus to expanding the comprehensive dialogue. 2010) and Prime Minister V. Orban (2012 and 2015) to Kazakhstan.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Hungary were established on March 23, 1992.
Political cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary :

Economic Cooperation
Kazakhstan is Hungary's 4th largest trading partner among the CIS countries (after Russia , Ukraine and Belarus ).
- The volume of Hungarian investments in the Republic of Kazakhstan since 2005 amounted to 192.9 million US dollars. According to the results of 2018, bilateral trade amounted to 139.1 million US dollars ( export - 26.1 million, import - 113 million). About 38 joint ventures with Hungarian capital are registered in Kazakhstan.
- In the structure of Kazakhstani exports, the main components are mineral fuel , chemical fertilizers , machinery , equipment. The import nomenclature includes agricultural products , food products , organic fertilizers, medical preparations, medicines , industrial and office equipment.
In accordance with the Agreement on Economic Cooperation, an Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation is operating. The IPC co-chair from the Kazakhstan side is the Minister of National Economy R. Dalenov, from the Hungarian side - the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance M. Varga. The 5th meeting of the IPC was held on October 18, 2016 in Astana , the 6th meeting was on November 23, 2018 in Budapest .
- In 2012, the Business Council [1] "Kazakhstan - Hungary" was created.
- The Hungarian oil and gas company MOL has been present on the Kazakhstan market for over 10 years. The company invested more than 200 million US dollars in the mining sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- In 2016, the official opening ceremony of the Kazakhstan-Hungarian Direct Investment Fund with an authorized capital of $ 40 million ($ 20 million from each side) was held. The fund was created by NUH KazAgro JSC and the Hungarian Export-Import Bank to finance agricultural projects in Kazakhstan. In particular, the Fund intends to make investments in agricultural companies operating in the field of processing, storage and logistics.
- Since 2017, a direct flight has been opened between Astana and Budapest. The Hungarian company Wizz Air has been appointed the official carrier.
- From 2017 to 2019 Within the framework of working visits of the Managing International Financial Center of Astana K.Kelimbetov to Budapest, meetings were held with the leadership of the National Bank, Budapest Stock Exchange, the Ministry of Foreign Economic and Foreign Affairs of Hungary, as well as Baker McKenzie, Keler Ldt., etc., during which the Hungarian side was provided with detailed information on current activities and development plans of the AIFC.
- In 2018, as part of an official visit to Budapest, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, K. Abdrakhmanov, held the second meeting of the Kazakh-Hungarian Strategic Council, at which issues of interaction in the field of energy, agriculture, education, health, and the use of transport and logistics potential of the two countries were discussed , tourism, construction and innovation.
- In December 2018, a delegation of the city of Astana headed by Akim B. Sultanov paid a working visit to Budapest.
An analysis of bilateral trade and economic relations shows a definite positive “shift” in the direction of increasing and expanding the structure of trade.
Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation
There are close historical ties between the two countries, as On the territory of modern central-eastern Hungary, descendants of the Kypchak tribes live, who migrated here from the Turgai steppes in the first half of the 13th century. A meeting of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2007 with representatives of the Union of Kypchaks of Hungary, who elected him as their honorary Leader, made a great contribution to the development of cultural relations between the two countries.
Countries are interested in strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The Honorary Department “Kazakhstan Way and N. A. Nazarbayev” was opened at the Yanosh Kodolani University of Applied Sciences, the Center for Kazakh Literature and Culture was opened at the Secheni Hungarian National Library, and the name of the Hungarian Turkologist Istvan Mandoka Kongur was given to the secondary school No. 154.
The number of students studying at universities in two countries is regularly growing. Hungarian students study the Kazakh language, and Hungarian professors teach at Kazakh universities. Artists, scientists and athletes of the two countries are actively involved in various cultural and sports events.
In the capitals of the two countries, the streets of Budapest and Astana are open . In Budapest, a bust of a Kazakh poet and enlightener Abai Kunanbayev was installed.
Kazakh and Hungarian scholars show mutual interest in studying common historical roots. In this regard, joint archaeological research is being conducted to study the history of the settlement of Kypchaks in Hungary and the Magyars in Kazakhstan.

- In 2014, with the support of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Leader of the Nation, a photo exhibition “Unknown Kazakhstan” was held in Budapest, and the Honorary Chair “Kazakhstan Way and N. - From 2012 to 2015 in Hungary, exhibitions of scientific reconstructions and copyright works of Crimea Altynbekov were organized. - In 2015, in Budapest, for the first time outside of Kazakhstan, a scientific conference was held on the theme “Interweaving of State Traditions in the Great Steppe [2] ”, dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate, and a literary evening dedicated to the 170th anniversary was held at the Szeged Scientific University from the birthday of the great Kazakh poet Abay Kunanbayev.
- In 2016, in honor of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Center for Kazakh Literature and Culture was opened at the Secheni National Library of Hungary (Budapest). The event was organized by the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary.
- In 2018, during the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, K. Abdrakhmanov to Budapest, the Kazakhstan-Hungarian Rectors Forum was held for the first time in the history of bilateral relations, in which the rectors of 40 leading Kazakhstan and Hungarian universities took part, and in the summer of that year, Akim Aktobe B. Saparbayev took part in the jubilee 10th Kurultai of the Turan nationalities in the city of Bugats.
Kazakhstani creative groups regularly take part in the cultural life of Hungary. The chamber choir of the State Academic Philharmonic of Astana took part in the international festival “Budapest International Choral Celebration [3] ”, the dance group of the Astana Ballet Theater performed in the Budapest Palace of Arts with the program “Eastern Rhapsody”, concerts of the folk and ethnic ensemble “Heavenly Heavens” Türks ”and the musical-choreographic collective of the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenov in the cultural center Klebersberg. In the cultural center named after Liszt Ferenc in the Hungarian city of Sopron , a concert was held by the creative team of the Kazakh National University of Arts, and in the Hungarian years.
