Bernard Patrick "Pat" Costello Jr. ) is an American rower who played for the US national rowing team in the 1950s. Silver medalist of the Summer Olympics in Melbourne , winner and medalist of regattas of national importance.

Biography
Pat Costello was born March 12, 1929 in Detroit , Michigan .
He achieved his first success in rowing back in 1948, becoming the US champion in the offset of oars steering eights. He was engaged in rowing while studying at a local college in Detroit, which he graduated in 1954. In the period 1951-1958, almost throughout his sports career he was in the Detroit Boat Club, in which he won several national titles.
In 1952, he became a member of the American national team and thanks to a series of successful performances he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Helsinki Summer Olympics . I started here in doubles together with teammate Walter Hoover , but could not get into the number of winners - he stopped at the stage of semifinals.
The highest success in rowing at the adult international level was achieved in the 1956 season at the Olympic Games in Melbourne . This one with his new partner Jim Gardiner in the doubles finals reached the finish line second behind the Soviet crew of Alexander Berkutov and Yuri Tyukalov - thereby winning a silver Olympic medal.
After the Melbourne Olympics, Costello no longer showed any significant results in rowing in the international arena.
He was married, had six children. He and his family lived in Bloomfield Hills , Michigan.
Died July 12, 2014 in Harbor Springs at the age of 85 years [1] .
