The first paper money in Europe
  • January 30 : Lviv University was founded by decree of the Polish King John II Casimir .
  • June: 18-year-old Isaac Newton was accepted as a student at Trinity College , University of Cambridge , more than 30 years of his subsequent life were associated with this institution [1] .
  • At the suggestion of the chief postmaster Henry Bishop, English mail began using the postmark [2] .
  • The first paper money in Europe was issued in Sweden [3] .

Publications

  • The Italian biologist Marcello Malpigi , using a 180-fold microscope, found capillaries in his lungs . He set forth his discoveries in the treatise De Pulmonibus [4] .
  • Anglo-Irish natural philosopher Robert Boyle in his book “The Skeptical Chemist ” outlined his views on the structure of matter: matter consists of atoms ( corpuscles ) and their compounds, and every natural phenomenon is the result of their motion and interaction. The book is considered by many historians of science to be the beginning of modern chemistry, which is separated from both alchemy and ancient errors [5] .
