Story
William Camquamba is a young Malawian from a family of farmers living in the village. He is engaged in repairing radios for his friends and neighbors, and in his spare time he inspects the landfill to search for electronic components. William is prohibited from attending school due to his parents' inability to pay tuition. He is blackmailing his science teacher (who is in a secret relationship with William's sister), and he allows him to continue to attend the school library, where the young man learns about electrical engineering and energy production.
Due to the drought, crop failure and the famine caused by this, unrest begins in the village, as a result of which the Kamquamba family is deprived of their already scarce grain reserves. Soon, people begin to leave the village, and William's sister runs away with the teacher, so as not to be a burden for the family.
In an effort to save his village from drought, William is developing a plan to build a wind generator to power an electric water pump, which he found earlier in a landfill. First, he creates a small prototype that works successfully, but in order to build a complete device, William demands that his father give permission to dismantle the family bike for parts, which is the only bike in the village and the last valuable item of the family. His father considers it useless and destroys the prototype. However, over time, he admits his mistake and, together with his son, builds a device that subsequently allows them to sow grain.
