General elections in Malawi were held on June 15, 1999 to elect the president and deputies of the National Assembly . Voting was originally scheduled for May 25 [1] , but was postponed twice at the request of the opposition to extend the voter registration period [2] . Bakili Muluzi from the United Democratic Front was re-elected president, receiving a majority of votes, and his United Democratic Front won a victory in the parliamentary elections, receiving 93 of 192 seats.
