Pas de Rio ( Spanish: Paz de Río ) is a small town and municipality in central Colombia , in the department of Boyaca . It is part of the province of Valderrama .

History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1834. The municipality of Pas de Rio was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1935.
Geographical position
The city is located in the northern part of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , on the left bank of the Chikamocha River, at a distance of approximately 78 kilometers northeast of the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2231 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of Pas de Rio borders in the north with the territory of the municipality of Sativanorte , in the west with the municipalities of Tutas and Belem , in the southwest with the municipality of Beteitiva , in the southeast with the municipalities of Taxco and Socha , in the northeast with the municipality Satatasur . The area of the municipality is 116 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 4,680 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 48% of the population of Pas de Rio, women - respectively 52%. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 59.9% of the city’s population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 40%; Indians - 0.1% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 91.5%.
Economics
58.3% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 34.5% are service enterprises, 6.9% are industrial enterprises, 0.3% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
Transport
National highway number 64 passes through the city.
