Herico ( Spanish. Jericó ) is a small town and municipality in the east of the central part of Colombia , in the territory of the Boyacá department. Included in the province of Valderrama .

History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1780. The municipality of Heriko was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1821 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the eastern part of the department, in the highlands of the Eastern Cordillera , east of the Chicamocha River, approximately 105 kilometers northeast of the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 3075 meters above sea level [2] .
The municipality of Heriko is bordered in the north by the territory of the municipality of La Uvita , in the north-west by the municipality of Susacon , in the west by the municipality of Sativante , in the south by the municipality of Sokot , in the east by the municipality of Chita . The area of the municipality is 179 km ² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 4,010 [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by year:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 51.7% of the population of Heriko, women - respectively 48.3%. Racially whites and mestizos accounted for 65.9% of the city’s population; Blacks , mulattoes, and Riesaly - 34.1% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 83.8%.
Economy
Heriko's economy is based on agriculture [1] .
85.7% of the total number of city and municipal enterprises are enterprises of the trade sector, 9.8% are enterprises of the service sector, 4.5% are industrial enterprises [4] .
