Biography
Born in 1790 in Rostov the Great in the family of a merchant of the 3rd guild in an old believer family [3] .
At the beginning of the XIX century, Vasily Shchapov to Moscow , stayed there, accumulated capital, and in 1826 founded a weaving factory . In the directory “Industry of Moscow Province” among the paper mills there is also a factory of the 2nd guild of Moscow merchant V. I. Shchapov in his own house in the 2nd quarter of the Basman part: “... there are 410 workers, 485 workers, annual production is 186 thousand RUB. ” [1] Shchapova’s factory was among the seven largest Moscow weaving enterprises. Shchapov's factory existed throughout the 20th century , changing its name more than once (Osip Zvonkova Factory, “The Red Worker”). In 2002, its building was given under the library and information center of the city public library. N. A. Nekrasov [4] .
Over the course of his later life, Vasily Ivanovich did not lose touch with Rostov: before his death, he sent money to his less wealthy brother, Ivan, for maintenance and insurance in St. Petersburg his father’s house in Rostov. He was the headman of the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo , participated in the construction of a new church, paying for about a third of the work needed - 70 thousand rubles [5] .
V.I. Shchapov died in 1864 in Moscow. In 1866, according to his spiritual testament, the Rostov urban society received 10,000 rubles for the distribution of interest to the poor.
Family
Vasily Ivanovich Shchapov was married twice: [3]
- on Vera Ilyinichna (d. 1841), there was a daughter Maria (d. 1841);
- on Elizabeth Venediktovna Shchekoldina (d. 1875), they had three sons who received 1/3 inheritance after the death of their father : Ilya Shchapov (1846-1896) also became an entrepreneur and together with his brother Peter Shchapov (1845-1890) founded a trade House "Brothers Peter and Ilya Shchapovy." The younger brother of Peter and Ilya - Pavel Shchapov (1848-1888) did not become an entrepreneur, was engaged in collecting books on the history of Russia, collecting a good library in which there were old printed and other unique books. The library was bequeathed to them by the Historical Museum .
