The founder of the museum is Nadezhda Semenovna Sadovskaya.
The museum occupies a building constructed in the second half of the nineteenth century in the style of South Russian classicism. On the gable of the building there is a plaque with the text: “Insured in Warsaw society. Arranged 1870 " [3] . Perhaps the house originally belonged to the merchant and patron of the arts Yakov Kurkuzaki, possibly the relatives of I. S. Turgenev . Subsequently, the building was occupied by the city merchant meeting, after - teacher's seminary. During the Great Patriotic War, the occupation authorities placed the Gestapo here, and after liberation, the city committees of the Communist Party and Komsomol occupied the house. Since the 1980s, they were replaced by a new owner - a kindergarten. The building was transferred to the Old Crimean Museum of Literature and History in 1996. In 2001, the museum became part of the reserve “Cimmeria M. A. Voloshin”.
