Biography

In the 1950s, Dieter Bertoldt was one of the leading chess players of the GDR , a repeated participant in the finals of the GDR chess championship , in which he won bronze in 1956 in Leipzig and silver in 1957 in Zemmerd . Together with the Dresden Chess Club, Sportclub Einheit Dresden won three times at the GDR Chess Team Championship (1957, 1958, 1962). He represented the GDR at the Chess Olympiad ( 1958 ) and at the team world championship among students in chess (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960). [one]

In 1962, he stopped participating in chess tournaments. Only in 1987 he returned and participated in veteran tournaments. He was a qualified mathematician by education and worked in the aviation industry.
