Short Biography
Born May 28, 1973 in Orekhovo-Zuevo , but later moved with his family to Fryazino .
Kalinnikov did not have a classical musical education, but he played music, by his own admission, with the orientation that he liked the activity.
In 1988 (according to other sources - in 1990 ) he founded the group “ Leap Year ”, the leader of which he was until his death. The name of the group was given by the unfinished song of Kalinnikov. The first composition included students of school No. 4 of the city of Fryazino, classmates - Pavel Seryakov , Ilya Sosnitsky and Yuri Dyakonov.
Up until the mid- 90s, the group had virtually no development, and only in 1995 Alexander Kutikov took custody of the “Leap Year”. During custody, the main compositions were written and recorded, which made the group a name - “The Best Love Song”, “Quiet Light”, “Flekkefjord”, “Sixth Day of Autumn” and others.
In 2000, the group released the album “ Which is coming back ”, which became the only album in its entire history.
In 2002, Ilya Kalinnikov was awarded the “Golden Star of Autoradio” [1] . In parallel with working with the group, he was the author of the music for the film “Everything You Love ...”. Subsequently, impressed by the work on the film, Kalinnikov wrote the song “Cinema”.
In 2014, together with the group, he performed only once at the rock festival " Invasion ".
He died on June 25, 2019 from heart failure in a Moscow hospital. The death of Ilya Kalinnikov said the group director Alexei Kan [2] . At the request of the family, the funeral was held behind closed doors, and the burial place was kept secret [3] [4] . He was buried in Fryazino, Moscow Region.
Personal life
His wife is a medical doctor by education Svetlana Abashkina [5] . She took part in creating the cover design for the album “ Leap Year ” “ Who is Returning ” [6] . Daughters - Alexandra and Maria.
