Biography
There is practically no information about the childhood and worldly life of Ferapont Borovensky, and the subsequent biographical data about him is very scarce and fragmentary; it is known that he was a disciple of St. Sergius of Radonezh [2] .
On the basis of the Borovensky monastery, the following legend has been preserved: Blessed Ferapont, looking for places to establish a wilderness camp, arrived there at a time when the entire neighborhood of the current Borovensk pogost was covered with thick solid pine forest (the remains of which are visible even before the path to the former monastery from Meshchovsk ) and brought with him a precious pledge, the blessing of his elder, the icon of the Assumption of the Mother of God. Tired on the way, he lay down under the shade of one of the ancient trees, placing an image on it. But having woken up, I did not find him in his place; perplexed and without losing hope in his divine guidebook, Feramont, after a long search, found an icon in the depths of the forest on one of the pines. The miraculous disappearance of the icon and its finding in the same place repeated up to three times. Having accepted this event as an indication that the Most Holy Theotokos favored to choose this very place for the introduction of its own Banner Icon, the blessed Ferapont built a monastery here, assembled a fraternity and, having lived there in eternal peace in the wooden he founded churches [2] .
Commemorated July 19 (July 6, Julian calendar) with the Cathedral of the Radonezh Saints [3] .
