Biography
Aster was born in New York into a Jewish family [3] . His father was a musician, and his mother a poet. He has a younger brother [4] .
Aster watched his first film when he was 4 years old: it was a picture of “ Dick Tracy ” based on comics. There was a scene in the film in which the character shot from a machine gun while a wall of fire stood behind him. Seeing this scene, the boy jumped up and ran away so far that his mother had to chase him [1] .
The Aster family lived in England for some time until they moved to New Mexico , where he spent his teenage years [5] .
Ari Astaire grew and became obsessed with horror films. “I looked at everything in every horror section in every video store I could find ... [...], I didn’t know how to gather like-minded people who would like to do the same ....... [...], once I just started writing scripts: I have found myself ” [6] .
Astaire graduated from the AFI Conservatory (special program of the famous American Film Institute ) in Los Angeles , where he met many of his future colleagues.
Aster’s debut was a provocative short called “Something Strange with the Johnsons,” filmed by him in 2011 and became a viral Internet hit [7] . Between 2011 and 2018, Aster wrote and directed 5 more short films, working closely with his friends from AFI Conservatory: producer Alejandro De Leon and cameraman Pavel Pogozhelsky. The first full-length work of Aster was " Reincarnation ", which won many awards and received high marks from critics. On the Metacritic portal , the film has a rating of 87 out of 100, based on 49 reviews. Horror in 2018 released the company A24 . The same company is releasing the next Aster film, Solstice . The film will be released in Russian rental on July 18 of this year [8] .
