History

Three-year cognac Manet , products Proshyansk plant

Proshyan Brandy Factory was founded in 1885 by Abgar Proshyan, a representative of a noble family of princes Prosh. Proshyan was educated in Germany, then returned to Russia, engaged in commercial activities, representing the interests of European manufacturers of equipment for distilleries, and then decided to establish his own business. Initially, the plant was located in the village of Proshyan, where there were many vineyards nearby. Products of the plant gained fame in other parts of the Russian Empire [2] .

The re-establishment of the plant took place in 1980. At this time, all production was concentrated in the north-western outskirts of Yerevan, and the plant itself was a state enterprise owned by the Armenian SSR . In 1987, the enterprise was reconstructed: the old equipment was replaced with new-type installations, the packaging process was partially automated; the area of the plant increased, the plantations of vineyards expanded, a scientific laboratory was opened. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the plant was privatized in 1996 by Eduard Chabaryan and his partner Armen Gasparyan [3] .

Although the main plant is located in Yerevan, the company also has a Proshyan-Aygestan winery in Aygestan village ( Ararat region ) and a Proshyan-Armavir winery in Armavir village ( Armavir region ), however, the whole bottling process takes place at the main plant in Yerevan. In 2008, the company opened an office in Moscow . In total, the production area of the company covers an area of 35 thousand square meters. m [4] .

In May 2015, the plant was visited by the Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan and held a conference on the prospects for the development of winemaking in Armenia, in which representatives of various winemaking companies of the country took part [5] .

In 2013, a legal dispute arose between the Proshyan brandy factory and the Berdadzor company: Berdadzor began producing souvenir brandy in bottles identical to those developed by the Proshyan factory. By the decision of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition of Armenia, counterfeit products were banned for sale [6] .

At the end of July 2018, a fire broke out at the Proshyansk plant, damaging some of the enterprise’s structures [7] .
