Paya ( Spanish: Paya ) is a small town and municipality in central Colombia , within the Boyaca Department . It is part of the province of La Libertad .

Content
History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded in 1600 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the eastern part of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , on the left bank of the Paero River, approximately 100 kilometers east-northeast (ENE), from the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 984 meters above sea level [2] .
The municipality of Pai borders in the north and northwest with the territory of the municipality of Pisba , in the southwest with the municipality of Labransagrande , in the south and east with the territory of the department of Casanare . The area of the municipality is 435.5 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 2550 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 53.2% of the share of the Unit, women - 46.8%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 98.8% of the city's population; Indians - 0.8%; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 0.4% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 77.1%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of Units is agriculture and logging [1] .
77.3% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 13.6% are service enterprises, 9.1% are industrial enterprises [4] .
