Group History

The first line-up of The Vibrators included the singing guitarist Knox (Ian “Knox” Kernokan), bassist Pat Collier, guitarist John Ellis and drummer Eddie (John Edwards). The group gained its first fame thanks to Chris Spading , who first invited her to perform at Club 100 (see The First International Punk Festival ), and then signed to her own label RAK Records , where the debut single “We Vibrate” was released, recorded by producer Mickey Bridge ).

At the end of their UK tour with Iggy Pop (with David Bowie on keyboards), Vibrators signed a new contract with Epic Records and released the second (subsequently called “classic” by many) [2] single “Baby Baby”, followed by Pure Mania's debut album ( 5 weeks in Top 75, # 49).

After the single “London Girls” was released (with a live version of the track), the band went on tour with Ian Hunter , frontman of Mott the Hoople . Soon after, Collier left the roster, giving way to Harry Tibs ( Roxy Music , Adam and the Ants ). The success of the single “Automatic Lover” (# 35, UK) [3] allowed the band to appear on the television program Top of the Pops . [4] .

The highest point in the creative trajectory of the group was marked by the second album V2 (April 1978, # 33) [3] . After him, John Ellis left the band to begin a solo career (he later collaborated with Peter Gabriel and joined The Stranglers in the 90s) and was replaced by Dave Birch, with whom the band released the single “Judy Says (Knock You In The Head). " In 1980, The Vibrators broke up, in 1982 they reunited to release Guilty and Alaska 127 , and since then have continued to record and perform in an ever-changing lineup [1] .

In the 1990s, Mickie Owen ( Mickie Owen , guitar), Mark Duncan ( Mark Duncan , bass), Nigel Bennet ( Nigel Bennet , guitar), Darrell Bath ( English Darrell Bath ) played with the band . , guitar), Nick Peckham ( born Nick Peckham , bass). In 1999, The Vibrators, as a trio, performed an American tour with Misfits , The Exploited and UK Subs . [one]
