Career
Jeon He-sung was born on March 4, 1980 , in Seoul , Republic of Korea , she studied theater and cinema at Dunguk University . Using the stage name Jung Da-bing, she debuted in 2000 in The Legend of Gingko.
In 2003, Chon and her colleague Kim Rae-won became famous after their role in the television series " Cat on the Roof ". By portraying a boy and a girl living platonic together and then falling in love (with cohabitation at that time a taboo subject in the South Korean mainstream), the series became a hit, especially popular among teenagers and people under thirty [1] [2] [3] .
Chon became known for her cheerful and positive image, and in 2004 she starred in her first film, the romantic comedy “He Was Cool,” based on Guyeoni's online novel [4] .
Death
On February 10, 2007, Chon Da-bing was found hanged on a bath towel in the bathroom of her boyfriend's house in Samson-Dong, Gangnam district, South Seoul [5] [6] . Her boyfriend said that he took Chon to his home because she got drunk during a party with friends in a bar [7] . He found the body at 7:50 am and called the police. He said that the actress was recently depressed due to the lack of work, the imprisonment of her previous manager and malicious attacks on the Internet about her appearance [8] [9] [10] . Guy Chong also said that she had already tried to kill herself by cutting her wrist in September / October 2006, but her talent agency contested this statement [11] . Her family and the agency asked for an investigation, and the autopsy concluded that it was a suicide [12] .
Although no suicide note was left, Chon published her thoughts on Cyworld’s personal blog the day before she committed suicide. Under the title "The End" she wrote:
Everything is so complicated. I am angry without a reason and I feel that I am losing my mind. It hurts me so much that it feels like my seasickness. My head hurts so much that I get angry. I become a slave to my character. I thought I was losing myself, losing my identity. Then, as if struck by lightning, everything was quiet. The Lord came to me with love. He helped me realize my importance and gave courage. I almost fell, and he raised me up, saying that everything will be fine. YES, I AM ALWAYS [11] [13] .
The body of the actress was cremated, and her remains were placed in a park in Ilsan, Gyeonggi province. The death of Chon Da-bin, which occurred shortly after the suicide of the singer U; Nee in January 2007, it raised concerns about imitative suicides [14] [15] .
