“ Hello Old Friend ” is a country rock song written and recorded by British rock musician Eric Clapton . The song was released in October 1976 as the first of two singles from Clapton's 1976 studio album No Reason to Cry [1] .

Performance in charts
The song made it to position 54 in the ARIA Charts chart in Australia , compiled by historian David Kent . In Canada, the single reached position 37, thereby becoming Clapton’s fourth solo single, making it to the Top 40 Country Songs. Located at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States , the single became Clapton’s third most successful single in the Top 40 in North America [2] .
Critic Reviews
In a review of the No Reason to Cry album, AllMusic music critic William Rulman noted "Hello Old Friend" the best pop / rock song on the album. He goes on describe the title as a "identifiable" Clapton piece of music. [3] Rolling Stone journalist Dave Marsh called the song "a bizarre and stupid attempt of attempted innocence." [four]
