Lurie, Alexander G.

Alexander G. Lurye ( 1868 - 1954 ) - Russian and Soviet medical scientist, dermatovenereologist, professor and head of the venereal diseases department of the Kiev Institute for Advanced Medical Studies (1919-1954) [1] .

Biography

From the Kiev rabbinical family. Nephew of a pediatrician, Professor Yevgeny Lvovich Sklovsky . Graduate of the Imperial University of St. Vladimir (1893). In the 1890s, he first worked as an intern at the Department of Cutaneous and Syphilitic Diseases of the University of St. Vladimir under Professor S. P. Tomashevsky [2] and at the Kiev Dermatological Clinic Professor M. I. Stukovkenkova , then as a doctor at the Kiev Jewish Hospital. For many years he was in charge of the dermatology department of the Kiev 1st City Hospital.

In 1918, he organized and headed the venereological section of the Kiev provincial health department, and in 1920 - the provincial venereology dispensary. In 1919, he founded the Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases at the Kiev State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies, which she headed for 36 years until the end of his life.

In 1933, he founded the USSR’s first mycological dispensary, thus becoming a pioneer in the fight against mycoses. For decades he was the permanent chairman of the Kiev Scientific Society of Dermatovenerologists and the Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Republican Scientific Society of Dermatovenerologists.

Scientific works are devoted to the general principles of syphilis therapy, in particular, he developed a method for the simultaneous administration of ovarsenol and bioquinol for compacted syphilis therapy, and also published works on the semiotics of syphilis. Among the students are professors AM Krichevsky , L.I. Sogolov, M.M. Levin , D.A. Bykhovskaya, M.G. Reif [3] .

  • Mother - Maria Borisovna Lurie (nee Arinstein, 1847-1939).
  • Sisters - Rachel G. Lurye , gynecologist and medical scientist; Anna Grigorievna Kozintsova (the wife of M. I. Kozintsov, MD).
  • A cousin is Ilya G. Ehrenburg , a poet and prose writer.
  • Nephews - Grigory Kozintsev , director; Lyubov Mikhailovna Kozintsova , artist (wife of the writer I. G. Ehrenburg ).
  • Her cousin, Lydia E. Friedman-Sklovskaya, was married to a prominent Soviet pediatrician and children's nephrologist EI Friedman .
