Geography
Ashagi-Layski is located north-west of the regional center of Sheki , on the banks of the Shinchay River, 2 km from the Sheki-Zagatala highway [1] .
History
The name of the village means Nizhnye-Laysky, nearby is the upper village of Bash-Laysky . An outstanding Azerbaijani ashug, Molla Juma, was born and lived in Ashagi-Laysky.
Population
In the “Caucasian calendar” for 1856, the village of Laiski, Guinukskago Magala, Nukhinsky Uyezd, Shemakhinskaya Governorate , is marked with residents of Azerbaijanis referred to as “Tatars”, with the spoken Tatar language, that is Azerbaijani. The religious composition of the villagers is indicated as Sunni Muslims. [2]
