The early years
Goga Bitadze was born in the east of Georgia in Sagarejo . [1] His father was a professional basketball player whose career ended prematurely due to injury. [2] Goga started playing basketball at age 6 because he considered himself “active and tall.” [1] His childhood idols were compatriots Zaza Pachulia and Tornike Shengelia , as well as star center NBAs of that time, Pau Gasol and Shaquille O'Neill . [1] [3] With his school team, Goga won the national championship among juniors up to 14 years old, and also played for the junior teams of BC “ Vita ” Tbilisi. [four]
Club career
Vita Tbilisi (2015—2016)
In the 2015/16 season, Bitadze played for BC Vita Tbilisi in the VTB League . [5] He debuted in the league at age 16 and became the youngest player in VTB League history. [6] Having played 6 games, Goga Bitadze averaged 2.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game. [7]
Mega Bemax (2016-2019)
On December 2, 2015, Bitadze signed a contract with the Serbian BC Mega Bemax . [8] The choice fell precisely on the Serbian League club , because the future NBA centers such as Nikola Jokic and Ivica Zubac played here. [1] [9] He described this step: “It was hard for me for a couple of months. I was very upset, was far from my family and friends. It was difficult for me, but then I gradually got used to it ... you have to sacrifice something in order to achieve something big. " [10] In December 2015, Bitadze scored an average of 7.8 points and 4 rebounds per game, which helped the Mega junior team get through the Adidas Next Generation qualifying tournament. [5] [11]
Smederevo 1953 (2016—2017)
For the 2016/17 season, Bitadze was leased to BC Smederevo 1953, who played in the Serbian league. [12] For 19 games, he scored an average of 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game [5] Bitadze made his debut on October 8, 2016, having chalked up 5 points and 4 rebounds, but his team lost BC Borats Čačak with a score of 71–75. [13] On October 29, in a game against BC Napress Krusevac, Goga set a performance record of 18 points, which he reached three more times this season. [14] Bitadze recorded his first double-double on April 1, 2017 against BC Dunav Stari Banovtsi, gaining 18 points and 11 rebounds. [fifteen]
Return from rental
Bitadze returned from lease and spent the 2017/18 season with Mega. [5] In 22 games of the Adriatic League, he scored an average of 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game, and in 12 games of the Serbian championship - on average 15.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. [16] He made his debut on October 1, 2017, recording 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks in a victory over the Zibona . [17] In January 2018, Bitadze played for some time for the Mega youth team and helped her win the Adriatic League among young men. Gaining an average of 17 points and 11 rebounds in the final tournament, he was named the most valuable player and was selected to the national team of all the stars of the Adriatic League. [18] On January 20, Bitadze scored 23 points against Tsedevita , setting his record for points in the Adriatic League. [19] On April 12, Bitadze decided to stand as a candidate for the 2018 NBA draft . [20] On May 30, he showed his best result of the season, gaining 25 points with 9 hits out of 12 from the game. However, on June 11, Bitadze was removed from the draft. [21]
Bitadze began the 2018/19 season, speaking for Mega. On August 11, 2018, in a show game against a team from the Kentucky Wildcats 1st Division of the NCAA , Bitadze was injured near the end of the first half and never returned to the floor. [22] On September 30, returning from an injury, he scored 24 points and 12 rebounds. On October 30, he was recognized as the most valuable player of the month in the Adriatic League. [24] On November 3, Bitadze scored a record 28 points for himself, hitting 11 of 12 from the game, but his team lost to Partizan . [25] Having played 11 matches for Mega in the Adriatic League, he scored an average of 20.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. [5]
Buduchnost (2018—2019)
On December 20, 2018, Bitadze was leased to the Montenegrin BC Buduchnost until the end of the season, which at that time was competing in the Euroleague . [26] [27] In his first game for Buduchnost on December 24, he scored 12 points and 4 rebounds against the Slovenian Krka in the Adriatic League match. [28] Four days later, Bitadze made his Euroleague debut with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks, losing to Bayern 88–93. [29] On January 3, 2019, he demonstrated another strong game in the Euroleague, gaining 23 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks from the bench, losing to Olympia Milan with a score of 94–111. [30] For 13 games in the Euroleague, Bitadze scored an average of 12.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game and received the title of “ Euroleague Rising Star ” as the best player under the age of 22. [31] After Buduchnost did not qualify for the Euroleague playoffs , Bitadze returned to Mega before the season ended. [32]
Indiana Pacers (2019-present)
On April 20, 2019, Bitadze nominated himself for the 2019 NBA draft , in which he was a possible “lottery” choice. [33] On June 19, Goga appeared in a “viral” photo, in which all journalists surrounded the future 1st pick of draft pick Zion Williamson and ignored Bitadze. A number of NBA players, including Dwayne Wade and Draymond Green , advised him to use this photo as a motivation. [34] [35] In the 2019 draft, Bitadze was selected by the Indiana Pacers team under a common 18th peak. [36]

Youth Teams

Despite this, he “learned a lot on the site and beyond,” watching his experienced teammates, including Zaza Pachulia and George Shermadini. [40] On November 24, 2017, Bitadze made his debut for the national team in the match against the German national team during the qualification for the 2019 World Cup , gaining 4 points in 17 minutes spent on the floor.
