Drunk checkers

Drunk Drafts Set

Drunk drafts is an entertaining variety of drafts , the game of which is associated with the process of drinking alcoholic beverages (one of the so-called alcoholic games ) [1] .

Content

Inventory

To play drunk checkers you need [1] :

  • Drinking utensils that will serve as checkers - 24 pieces. It is necessary to use two well distinguishable different sets of 12 pieces to distinguish between “white” and “black” and / or to distinguish the figures of players by the color of the drink. Dishes can be absolutely anything, from crystal glasses to disposable plastic cups [1] .
  • A sufficient amount of alcoholic beverages. If both players use the same dishes, then you need to use drinks of two clearly distinguishable colors, which will correspond to the black and white colors of the figures. When using different drinks it will be correct if they are of the same strength (for example, cognac and vodka or red and white wine ) [1] [2] .
  • A checkerboard of suitable size (preferably waterproof) [1] .

On sale there are special kits for the game.

Rules

Basically, the game takes place according to the rules of ordinary checkers, but with small additions. The dishes are partially (usually half) filled with an alcoholic drink and serve as checkers. The player who has beaten the checker must drink the contents of the hit checker (after which, as a rule, he has a bite [2] ). When the checker turns into a “lady”, the glass is filled to the brim [1] .

The game is entertaining and may contain additional variations:

  • A game of giveaways (where, in this way, the winning player remains more sober by “drinking” his opponent) [2] [3] ;
  • When a player does not drink a saber, it is the owner of the saber who has not beaten it;
  • When entering the dames the checker is drunk by the player himself and turns over;
  • A team game, when several people play each color (there are variations when a team drinks in turn, and in random order).
  • There are drunken chess too; the main problem is how to reliably distinguish figures. There is a legend that Emanuel Lasker beat Geza Maroci in drunken chess by sacrificing the queen (a two hundred gram bottle of whiskey). Hungarian became tipsy and could no longer play well. [four]

Prevalence

Competitions in drunken drafts can be both an independent event [3] [5] , and take place as part of a larger mass event [2] .

In the movie

  • In the serial film “ Yesenin ”, a game of drunken checkers is shown, the checkers and glasses of one opponent were filled with red wine and the other with white [6] .
  • "The Big Wick " (1963) - the plot of "Checkers".
