Since the beginning of the Patriotic War of 1812, Colonel Denisiev was the chief of the Butyr Infantry Regiment and commanded the 2nd Brigade of the 24th Infantry Division, distinguished himself in the Battle of Borodino . In foreign campaigns of 1813-1814, for the distinction in the Battle of the Peoples near Leipzig, he received the rank of Major General [2] .
Depicted in a general's uniform introduced for infantry generals on May 7, 1817. On the left on the chest is a star of the Order of St. Anne of the 1st degree; crosses of the orders of St. George of the 4th class and St. Vladimir of the 4th degree and a silver medal "In Memory of the Patriotic War of 1812" on the St. Andrew’s ribbon on the right chest. On the back of the picture there is an inscription: Denesieff 2s [3] . Signature on the frame: P.V. Denisiev 2nd, General Mayor .
On August 7, 1820, the Denisiev Certification Committee of the General Staff was included in the list of “generals deserving to be written in the gallery” and on July 22, 1822, Emperor Alexander I ordered his portrait to be painted. In the Inspectorate Department of the Ministry of War there is a letter dated November 26, 1824 to the head of the 11th Infantry Division, Lieutenant General F. I. Talyzin : “Having the honor to transmit to your Excellency a portrait of the commander of the 3rd brigade of the division entrusted to me, Major General Denisiev, I ask you to humbly "Your Excellency to notify me of the receipt of this by mail and, upon making the copy, return it to me for delivery to Major General Denisiev . " The Dow fee was paid on April 4, 1824 and June 21, 1827. The finished portrait was taken to the Hermitage on July 8, 1827. Since the previous delivery of the finished portraits to the Hermitage took place on October 18, 1826, the gallery portrait of Denisiev can be considered executed between these dates [4] . The location of the prototype portrait is unknown to modern researchers.
