Disagreement and quarrel with Rise Against
I think Tim and many others misunderstood this song. I do not ask myself: “Remember, you were young and wanted to burn the whole world?”, I ask the listener. I think I do not quite understand the policy of Rise Against or the statement that the phrase “The revolution was a lie” made people rebel. I always want to ask: “And what the fuck was not? What is the revolution, man? What is the revolution of Rise Against ? In what That a crowd of people go to their concerts, making them rich and famous? Because it has already been a million times! Or the revolution is that they pose for PETA posters in Nike sneakers? I don't fuck it, man. I think PETA is a complete shit, and most of their actions are for personal gain. - Tom Gable |
Chorus line - “Remember, you were young and wanted to burn the whole world?”, Caused controversy after another American punk band Rise Against released the song “Architects” in 2011. It contained the following words:
Do not you remember, you were young and wanted to burn the whole world?
I know, somewhere deep inside you remember.
Do not you remember, you were young and wanted to burn the whole world?
So, I'm still the same, and still want!Original Text (Eng.)You want to set the world on fire?
Somewhere deep down, I know you do.
You want to set the world on fire?
Well I still am, and I still do!
These words were perceived as a mocking answer to the song Against Me! In one of the interviews, the leader of Rise Against Tim McKilrot explained the meaning of the text of his song: “It seemed to me that in this song Against Me! have expressed contempt for the fire that rages in my soul and in the souls of our fans. This required an answer, and here is the answer ... this line seems to devalue what many of us still believe wholeheartedly. ” In response, Geybl criticized the policy of Rise Against , noting the ease with which the line "The revolution was a lie" angered McIlroth. In 2016, the musician stated that, despite the fact that he and Rise Against were friends and went on tours together, “then it all looked like ordinary posturing . Like, “Okay, as you say, you're a bigger revolutionary than me, you can be proud”. ”
