Biography
Born May 8, 1858 in the family of a merchant August Drews and his wife Alma Zeissich, daughter of a doctor from Aybenstok .
He attended the St. Thomas Humanitarian School in Leipzig
In 1878 - 1881 he studied evangelical theology of at the University of Leipzig and the University of Gottingen . While studying in the latter, he was admitted to the student corporation Thuringian Union of Scientific Theology ( German: Akademischen Theologischen Verbindung Thuringia ). [one]
After graduating from the universities he found he worked as a private teacher with a nobleman in Franconia.
In 1883 he became pastors in Burkau , and in 1889 the archdeacon of the Church of Luke in Dresden .
In 1892 he received a license in theology for his work “ Peter Canisius , the first German Jesuit” ( German: Petrus Canisius, der erste deutsche Jesuit )
In 1894, he became an extraordinary professor of practical theology at Jena University .
In 1887 he became an Honorary Doctor of the Faculty of Theology at Halle-Wittenberg University .
In 1901 he became an ordinary professor at the University of Giessen , from where in 1908 he transferred to Halle-Wittenberg University .
Scientific activity
He studied the history of the Reformation (he prepared for publication the debates of Martin Luther ). In addition, he was engaged in research on the history of liturgics and the Evangelical church as part of practical theology.
Community Activities
In his parish, he embraced the ideas of Christian socialism , although he refused to accept the claims of Friedrich Naumann that Jesus Christ is an archetype of social reformer. One of the founders of the church-religious magazine Die Christliche Welt and editor of the work collection Evangelische Kirchenkunde.
