The picture is a chest portrait of Lieutenant General Pavel Vasilyevich Golenishchev-Kutuzov from the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace [1] .
Since the beginning of the Patriotic War of 1812, Major General Golenishchev-Kutuzov was an adjutant general and was at the headquarters of the 1st Western Army, was seriously wounded in the battle of Ostrovno and returned to the army only in October; after the capture of F.F. Wincingerode led his detachment. In the overseas campaigns of 1813-1814 he distinguished himself at Dresden and Kulm , for which he received the rank of lieutenant general , after that he distinguished himself in the Battle of the Peoples near Leipzig . After the capture of Paris, he was under Emperor Alexander I at the Vienna Congress and during the campaign of One Hundred Days accompanied him on a new campaign to France [2] .
Depicted in the adjutant-general uniform, introduced in 1815, with the retinue accelerant . On the neck there are crosses of the orders of St. George of the 3rd class and St. Vladimir of the 2nd degree; aboard the uniform of the cross of the Austrian Order of Leopold and the Bavarian Military Order of Maximilian Joseph ; a silver medal “In memory of the Patriotic War of 1812” on the St. Andrew’s ribbon on the right chest, a bronze noble medal “In memory of the Patriotic War of 1812” on the Vladimir ribbon , a cross of the Swedish Military Order of the Sword and star of the orders of St. Alexander Nevsky and St. Vladimir 2- st degree. On the back of the painting are inscriptions: Golen Kutusoff and Geo Dawe RA pinx t [3] . Signature on the frame: P.V. Golenishchev-Kutuzov, Genera. Lieutenant .
Despite the fact that on August 7, 1820, the Golenishchev-Kutuzov General Staff Attestation Committee was included in the list of “generals whose service does not belong before the consideration of the Committee,” the actual decision to paint his portrait was made earlier than this date, since the Dow’s fee for this portrait It was paid on March 24 and June 30, 1820. The finished portrait was taken to the Hermitage on September 7, 1825. The collection of the Grand Gatchina Palace contains an author's repetition of a gallery portrait with the signature of the artist on the front side and the date: G. Dawe RA 1820 [4] .
At the London firm Paul & Dominic Colnaghi & Co, an unsigned lithography was made from the portrait on the order of the St. Petersburg bookseller S. Florent, indicating the date of January 1, 1827. One of the surviving prints is in the collection of the State Hermitage (Chinese paper, 67.5 × 50.5 cm, inventory number ERG-435), and the authorship of the lithography was not established there [5] . A. A. Podmazo believes that the author of this lithography is E. I. Geitman [4] .
In the 1840s, in the workshop of Karl Kraya , a lithograph was made from the portrait and painted by I. A. Klyukvin , published in the book “Emperor Alexander I and His Companions” and subsequently repeatedly reproduced [6] .
